Prince William, Princess Kate Introduce Baby Boy To The World

LONDON (CBSNewYork) -- Britain is celebrating the arrival of the country's newest royal baby.

Prince William's wife, Kate, gave birth to a healthy baby boy on Monday morning.

Just before 1 p.m., William and Kate emerged from the hospital in London with the newest addition of the royal family, who has yet to be named. Earlier, William arrived with little Prince George and Princess Charlotte, who gave a wave to cameras, as they walked in to the hospital to meet their little brother, CBS2's Teri Okita reported.

Crowds cheered as Prince William walked out of the hospital hours after his wife gave birth to their third child. Fans broke broke out champagne to toast the arrival of the baby boy.

The 8 pound, 7 ounce baby will be a little brother to 4-year-old George and 2-year-old Charlotte. After several hours of labor, Duchess Kate gave birth at the prestigious Lindo wing of St. Mary's Hospital.

An unofficial town crier announced the news, but the official royal bulletin was posted on a golden easel outside Buckingham Palace, an age-old custom for the public to see.

It can take days or even weeks for royal parents to announce a name. William and Kate will need to run it by Queen Elizabeth first, but top bets are on Arthur, Albert and Philip.

Adding to the excitement, the royal baby was born on St. George's Day, which celebrates the patron saint of England.

"It's brilliant for the country. It's going to lift everyone's spirits," royals fan Maria Scott said.

The tiny prince will be fifth in line to the British throne, bumping uncle Prince Harry down to sixth. The birth comes just weeks before the royal wedding, when Harry will marry American actress Meghan Markle.

This is the sixth great-grandchild for Queen Elizabeth, who celebrated her 92nd birthday on Saturday.
