Powerball Jackpot Increases To $478 Million After Months Without Winner

DES MOINES, Iowa (CBSNewYork/AP) -- No one has matched the jackpot-winning numbers in Wednesday night's Powerball drawing, and the prize has increased to an estimated $478 million.

The next drawing will be Saturday. Nearly three months have passed without a winner of the big prize.

The chance of winning the Powerball is incredibly small, at 292.2 million-to-1. But players have much better odds, of about 1 in 25, of winning smaller prizes ranging from $4 to $1 million.

There was one $2 million dollar winner in Florida, and $1 million winners in Ohio, Pennsylvania and Virginia, CBS2 reported.

If anyone matches the five balls and red Powerball in Saturday's drawing, it will be the game's first jackpot winner since May 7, when a New Jersey woman and her seven adult children claimed a $429.6 million Powerball jackpot.

The big Powerball prize comes less than three weeks after a player inIndiana won a $536 million Mega Millions jackpot.
