"A one-seat ride from lower Manhattan to Newark Airport," Port Authority Deputy Executive Director Deborah Gramiccioni said at Tuesday's board committee meeting.

The extension is part of a proposed $27.6 billion, 10-year capital plan that will go before the authority's full board on Feb. 19.

Nearly half of the money is dedicated to maintaining facilities. Officials say $1 billion will be spent on repairing damage from Superstorm Sandy and preventing future damage from storms, mostly on the PATH line.

About $8 billion will go to aviation facilities, with $7.9 billion earmarked for tunnels and bridges.

"At bridges and tunnels, we will be investing nearly $8 billion including significant investments on several major initiatives," said Port Authority Executive Director Pat Foye. "Plus, major projects to renovate the LaGuardia central terminal building and, later in the decade, Terminal A at Newark,"

Projects include raising the Bayonne Bridge to allow for bigger ships, replacing the Goethals Bridge, repairing the aging George Washington Bridge and building a new Lincoln Tunnel helix, WCBS 880's Marla Diamond reported.
