Port Authority Police Halt Non-Mandatory Training, Fire 9 Rookie Officers After Rowdy Graduation Party

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - Port Authority police have fired rookie officers and halted all but mandatory training following a drunken graduation party in August.

"I think that it will be a major earthquake inside that organization and beyond," Eugene O'Donnell said, who teaches police studies at John Jay College.

As WCBS 880's Peter Haskell reported, the vast majority of trainers at the academy have been transferred and nine rookie officers have been fired.

"Things that might have been tolerable in other generations and times are no longer tolerable," O'Donnell said.

As part of the investigation, the Office of Inspector General interviewed more than 100 police officers, customers and staff of the bar, reviewed video, and looked over social media communications and other electronic messages, the Port Authority said.

The Port Authority is promising a full review.
