Poll: Two-Thirds Of New Yorkers Optimistic About De Blasio As Mayor
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - A majority of New York City voters say they're optimistic about the next four years with Bill de Blasio as mayor.
According to a Quinnipiac University poll released Thursday afternoon, 67 percent of voters have given the new mayor a vote of confidence, compared with just 21 percent who don't feel optimistic.
"They are good for de Blasio. They are not unusual, he's a new mayor. It's a honeymoon, it's a nice honeymoon welcome for de Blasio. Two-thirds of New Yorkers say yeah they're optimistic about how he's going to do. And we'll see, that's a nice beginning," said Quinnipiac University Polling Director Maurice Carroll.
Republicans are split, 44-45 percent, on whether they're optimistic about the de Blasio mayoralty.
But New Yorkers don't agree with the new mayor about everything.

The poll found that 61 percent of those polled support continuing to allow horse-drawn carriages in the city, something the mayor has vowed to end.
This was the first poll taken about the de Blasio administration since the Democrat was sworn in on Jan. 1.
The poll also found 53 percent of New Yorkers support the job de Blasio's been doing in his first two weeks in office.
Quinnipiac conducted telephone interviews of 1,288 New York City voters from Jan. 9 to 15. The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 2.7 percentage points.
