Poll: Christie's New Jersey Approval Rating Remains Low

TRENTON, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) - Gov. Chris Christie's approval rating is still lagging.

A Quinnipiac University poll released Wednesday finds 46 percent of New Jersey voters surveyed approve of the job Christie is doing compared to 48 percent who disapprove.

Pollsters say that's Christie's worst overall score in almost four years.

"I don't think these numbers are particularly surprising," Rider University Rebovich Institute of Politics Director Ben Dworkin told WCBS 880's Levon Putney.

Christie last topped the 50 percent mark in January of last year, before the fallout from the George Washington Bridge scandal.

Poll assistant director Maurice Carroll says Christie has yet to fully recover.

While a majority of voters say Christie has strong leadership qualities, half say the governor isn't honest and 51 percent say Christie doesn't care about their problems.

Dworkin said as Christie mulls a presidential run, New Jersey approval ratings no longer matter as much "as his standing among other presidential aspirants."

The survey of 1,211 voters has a margin of error of plus or minus 2.8 percentage points.
