"Her 5-year-old daughter was not with her but was in close proximity which is indeed a tragedy in any homicide for the family membes left behind and in this case you have a 5-year-old daughter that now is without a mom," Nassau County Homicide Capt. John Azzata said Friday.

Police are looking into whether the murder followed a domestic dispute, Azzata said

"We are definitely pursuing that as an avenue," Azzata said. "We do not believe it was a robbery due to the fact that most of her possessions were found in the general vicinity of the incident."

The father of the child lives in El Salvador.

The investigation is ongoing.

Detectives are asking anyone with information to call Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.  All callers will remain anonymous.
