Police: Woman Left Granddaughter, 5, In Parked Car While She Was In Queens Casino

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A woman was arrested and charged with leaving her 5-year-old granddaughter in a parked car for over an hour, while she was in the Resorts World Casino in Jamaica, Queens.

As WCBS 880's Jim Smith reported, Renee Osby, 56, was arrested at 11:54 a.m. Saturday, and charged with acting in a manner injurious to a child under 17 years old, police said.

She was accused of leaving hear granddaughter in a parked car outside the casino, at 110-00 Rockaway Blvd. in Queens, for over an hour.

Osby allegedly told police she went into the casino to "cash a check."

A casino security guard called the police after he observed the child alone in the car for approximately an hour, police said.

Resorts World Casino issued a statement in connection with the incident.

"Earlier today, Resorts World security observed a 5-year-old child in an unattended vehicle in the parking lot. They were able to safely remove the child from the vehicle and immediately called 911," the statement said. "The safety and security of everyone on Resorts World property is our number one priority."
