Police: Woman Found Dead In SUV In Elizabeth, N.J. Had Been Overcome By Fumes
ELIZABETH, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- A woman whose body was found in a sport-utility vehicle in an Elizabeth, New Jersey parking lot this week had been overcome by fumes when she died, police said Tuesday.
The body of Maria Fernandes, 32, was found Monday evening in a white sport-utility vehicle in the parking lot of a Wawa convenience store, behind an Auto Zone, off Routes 1 and 9.
Police said Tuesday that Fernandes, who worked four jobs, was taking a nap in her vehicle and died after being overcome by fumes.
Police were called to the scene after an employee of a nearby Wawa convenience store noticed the woman's body inside the vehicle.
The parking lot where the vehicle with the body was found belongs to the Wawa store. Management at the store released a statement saying their employees alerted police to the situation.
The store also said the incident does not involve any of its associates or customers to their knowledge.
