Police Take Son Into Custody In Killing Of Congers Man

CONGERS, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A man is in police custody after his father was found apparently bludgeoned to death in his Congers home Monday morning, police said.

A neighbor called police around 5:37 a.m. after someone from the Ohio Avenue house ran over calling for help, police said. When officers arrived, they found Ismael Alicea, 61, unresponsive inside a bedroom. Paramedics pronounced him dead at 5:58.

The Rockland County medical examiner's initial investigation found that Alicea died from injuries caused by bludgeoning.

The victim's son, Steven Alicea, 33, was taken into custody, police said. He was charged with second-degree murder and ordered held without bail. He's due back in court Friday.

The Clarkstown Police Department is continuing to investigate.
