Police: Suspect Tried To Rape Woman In Bedford-Stuyvesant

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police on Tuesday were asking the public for help in finding a suspect in an attempted rape in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn this past weekend.

The assault happened around 7:55 a.m. at Ralph Avenue and Bainbridge Street in Brooklyn, police said.

The suspect followed the 32-year-old woman into a vestibule and tried to rape her, but she fought him off, police said. The suspect ran off with the woman's cellphone.

The suspect was described as a black male standing 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighing 195 pounds. Police have released two surveillance videos.

Anyone with information was asked to call the NYPD Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS, log onto the Crime Stoppers website, or text tips to 274637 (CRIMES) and enter TIP577.
