Police: Suspect Stole Elderly Women's Wallets On UES, Used Credit Cards
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police on Friday were searching for a woman who they believe has been swiping wallets form elderly women on the Upper East Side, and fraudulently using their credit cards.
The suspect purchased clothing and gift cards with the women's credit cards after the thefts, which happened between Oct. 1 and Nov. 18, police said.
The thefts happened at the following times and locations:
• Around 3 p.m. hours Wednesday, Oct. 1, inside a building at 941 Lexington Ave. The suspect took a wallet from an 83-year-old woman and ran off, police said. A Chase Bank branch is located at the Lexington Avenue address;
• Around noon on Thursday, Nov. 13, inside 1644 York Ave. The suspect took a wallet from a 76-year-old woman and left, police said. A Gristedes grocery store is located at the York Avenue address;
• Around 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 18, inside 147 E. 86th St. The suspect took a wallet from an 86-year-old woman and left. The building 86th Street address includes storefronts and a subway entrance.
The woman was described as being about 50 years old. Police have released a surveillance video.
