Police: Suspect Sought In Brooklyn Sex Assault

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police are on the hunt for the suspect in a violent sex assault in Brooklyn.

It happened in Crown Heights around 6 p.m. Saturday.

Investigators said a 59-year old woman was sitting on a bench on Eastern Parkway when a man walked up and started a conversation.

When the woman asked for directions to the nearest bathroom, police said he led her to a basement of an apartment building on Albany Avenue where he assaulted her and choked her until she passed out.

The suspect then fled. The woman was taken to the hospital where she was treated and released.

The suspect was seen on surveillance video.

Police describe him as a 60-year-old black man, about 5'10" and weighing 200 pounds. He has a Caribbean accent and a scarred and discolored eye, police said.
