Police: Suspect Sought In Attempted East Village Rape

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police are searching for a suspect who they said is wanted in an attempted sex attack in the East Village.

It happened Monday around 11:50 p.m. near Second Avenue.

Police said the suspect followed a 23-year-old woman into her residence and once inside, lifted her dress and tried to rape her. The woman screamed and the suspect ran off, police said.

The suspect was seen on surveillance video. Police describe him as a white man between 20 and 25 years old, about 6-feet-tall and weighing 170 pounds.

He was seen wearing khaki pants, a dark sweater with a zipper and a baseball type hat.
