Police: Suspect Attacked, Robbed 78-Year-Old Man In Queens

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police on Tuesday were searching for a suspect who threw a 78-year-old man to the ground and robbed him at a convenience store in Queens.

The robbery happened around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the store at 22-44 31st St. in the Ditmars-Steinway section of Queens, police said.

The older man was buying cigarettes from the window of the store when the robber threw him to the ground and forcibly took cash, police said.

The victim suffered an injury to the back of his head and was rushed to Elmhurst Hospital Center, where his condition was only reported as stable, police said.

The suspect was described as a white male around 35 years old, standing 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighing about 200 pounds, with a light complexion and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a black jacket with white stripes on the sleeves, a white hooded jacket, blue jeans and tan boots.

Police have released surveillance video of the suspect.
