Suspect Arrested In West Orange Gas Station Robbery, Shooting

WEST ORANGE, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- Police in New Jersey have arrested a suspect wanted in connection with a shooting and armed robbery at a gas station in West Orange.

Kashif Harris, 21, is charged with robbery, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon and aggravated assault, police said.

The incident, which was captured on surveillance video, happened June 16 at the Delta gas station on Park Avenue.

In the video, police said a man in a ski mask is seen running up and grabbing an attendant from behind. As the two struggled, police said the suspect shot the victim.

While the attendant is gasping in pain, police said the suspect can be seen rifling through the victim's pockets before running off. The video ends with the victim limping off camera.

Two days later, police said Harris was arrested in Irvington on an unrelated armed robbery charge. After further investigation, police said they linked Harris to the gas station attack.

"Through the expert detective work of our officers, we were able to track down this criminal quickly," West Orange Police Chief James Abbott said in a statement.

Bail for Harris was set at $400,000. He remains in the Essex County jail.
