Police: 'Strong Possibility' Valley Cottage Woman Knew Her Assailant

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- According to police, an 81-year-old activist who was found fatally stabbed in her home over the weekend may have known her killer.

Clarkstown police said in a statement Wednesday that there was no sign of forced entry at the Valley Cottage home of Peggy Nadell.

Authorities said there is "a strong possibility" that Nadell knew her assailant.

Nadell, who lived alone, was found on Saturday by her grown daughter who had become worried.

Officials said they don't believe there is any danger to others in the hamlet, which is located about 25 miles north of New York City.

A funeral was held for the longtime Rockland County Democratic committeewoman on Wednesday.

Nadell was well-known in the halls of local government buildings where many people referred to her as a Democratic party activist with a big heart.
