Police: Shots Fired At 3 Homes, 1 Car On Long Island
EAST ISLIP, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A Long Island man has pleaded guilty to charges in connection with two of four recent drive-by shooting incidents in Suffolk County.
Three homes and one car were hit with bullets late Monday night into Tuesday in four communities, police said.
"Shots were fired at one house in Great River, one house in North Great River and one house in East Islip. A car was fired upon in Islip Terrace," said police spokesperson Rich Glanzer.
Investigators said they are still on the hunt for more possible suspects.
"Three shots. I heard bang, bang, bang like 2 o'clock in the morning," East Islip resident Rob Capriola told CBS 2's Carolyn Gusoff.
The shootings prompted the East Islip schools superintendent to keep students inside for recess Tuesday afternoon as a precaution, WCBS 880's Sophia Hall reported.
"It's horrifying. It's scary. This is not something that normally happens. Actually, it shouldn't happen anywhere," said Great River resident Linda Hofrichler.
Kyle Rowlinson, 24, of East Islip, was charged with two counts of reckless endangerment in connection with the East Islip and Islip Terrace incidents. He pleaded guilty during his arraignment Wednesday afternoon.
Rowlinson was tracked down by police in part thanks to home surveillance video that showed a pick-up truck and recorded the sounds of gun fire, Gusoff reported.
Police said they are looking for additional suspects, who were driving around in a white pick-up truck, Hall reported.
Suffolk County Police Lt. Darrel Simmons said the shootings were not random acts.
"We want to stress to the public, these shootings are targeted, they are not random in nature," Simmons said. "We want to emphasize to the public they are not in danger, these locations were targeted by these individuals."
The people who were targeted are in their early 20s and know the suspects, Hall reported.
Authorities are looking into how many bullets were fired in each location. The car had three bullet holes and one of the homes had 13 bullet holes near the front door, Hall reported.
No injuries were reported.
