Police Seek Driver Who Took Off After Slamming Into Parked Car With Kids Inside

PATERSON, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A driver in New Jersey crashed into a vehicle with two sleeping children inside while trying to elude police, authorities said.

The driver then fled the scene of the crash, which happened just before 10 p.m. Thursday in Paterson. He was last seen running through the backyards of several nearby homes.

Police said the suspect also discarded a revolver loaded with hollow-point bullets.

No injuries were reported in the crash.

Police said it all started when officers tried to stop the speeding car in the minutes before the crash occurred.

The car is registered to an address in East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, but police said it's not clear whether the car's owner was the person driving the vehicle.
