Police searching for people who ran from scene of deadly crash overnight in Brooklyn

3 flee the scene of deadly Brooklyn crash, police say

NEW YORK -- The search is on for as many as three people who ran from the site of a deadly crash that was caught on camera.

Investigators pored over the grisly scene in Bushwick that claimed the life of a man and critically injured two others. Police said the drivers of both mangled cars will face repercussions - one for driving with a suspended license, the other for fleeing the scene.

Surveillance video from Monday morning shows a Toyota slowly rolling past a stop sign on Stockholm Street. The car makes it halfway through the intersection when a Kia traveling on Irving avenue T-bones it. The collision sent both cars spinning, hitting a suburban hard enough to send it onto a curb.

"It sounded to be like something big and heavy falling," neighbor Susan Kiefer said.

"I think the car comes really fast, and another one come here, start to spin and this how end up," one person said.

Police and fire personnel rushed to the intersection just after 12:45 a.m. Monday and took four people injured inside the Toyota to Elmhurst Hospital.

The Kia was empty. Police say all three occupants, including the driver, ran away. Detectives are now searching for them.

"They got to do something with this spot. Always cars that come from over there, they come mad fast, boom. And nobody can see it," neighbor Geovany Carbeallo said. "There is a blind spot."

Officers said a male passenger in the Toyota died from his injuries. Two others, a 34-year-old and 29-year-old, are in critical condition.

Police say the 26-year-old driver of the Toyota is in stable condition and will be charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477), or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). You can also submit a tip via their website or via DM on Twitter, @NYPDTips. All calls are kept confidential.
