Police Search For Vehicle Following Murder Of Brooklyn Rabbi In Miami

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – New information has been released in the murder of a Brooklyn Rabbi, killed while visiting family in Miami.

Police are now looking for a Toyota Tundra, seen in the area around the time of Rabbi Joseph Raksin's death, Summer Knowles of CBS affiliate WFOR-TV told CBS 2.

Raksin was in Miami visiting relatives when police said he was confronted by two men and shot while walking to a synagogue on Saturday.

Police and volunteers have been canvassing the neighborhood for more information, and even identifying homes with security cameras that could have caught the incident.

A source close to the investigation told Knowles detectives are already reviewing surveillance footage that shows one man, described by a witness as one of Raksin's attackers.

Residents in the area say their lives have been anything but normal since the shooting.

"I don't feel 100 percent safe. I have a big dog and that's a deterrent. My daughter usually would walk alone but she's not walking alone," one resident said. "We do the best we can."

Police say the killing was not a hate crime, but a botched robbery.

However, relatives of the Rabbi believe otherwise.

Hundreds of mourners gathered at a funeral procession in Brooklyn Monday for Raksin.

CBS 2's Andrea Grymes spoke Monday with Raskin's family and friends, who were still trying to make sense of his murder.

"I am experiencing a deep, tremendous feeling of sorrow; loss," said Raskin's brother-in-law, Isaac Neworth.

Neworth could not believe his brother was gone.

"We were very close," Neworth said. "He was an amazing individual. He personified goodness, kindness, those ideals."

"My kids are hysterically crying," Neworth said. "He was the uncle that always was the hugs; pat on the head; the one with the nice story."

Knowles reported at least $50,000 in reward money has been collected.
