Police Search For 3 Teenage Boys Who Vanished From L.I. Group Home

SYOSSET, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Nassau County police on Monday were searching for three teenage boys who vanished from a group home this weekend.

Gabriel Hernandez, 16; Jonathan Acevedo, 15; and Shakeem Smith, 14, were all last seen leaving the Mercy First Group Home, at 525 Convent Rd. in Syosset, around 8 p.m. Sunday, Nassau County police said.

One of the boys, Smith, suffers from an unspecified cognitive disability, police said.

Smith is described as a black male standing 5 feet 3 inches tall and weighing 122 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a black jacket, blue jeans and eyeglasses.

Acevedo is described as a Hispanic male standing 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighing 139 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a light blue shirt.

Hernandez is described as a black male standing 5 feet 4 inches tall and weighing 139 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a black and brown varsity jacket, jeans and sneakers.

Police asked anyone who might know about the boys' whereabouts to contact the Nassau County police Missing Persons Squad, at (516) 573-7347, or call 911.
