Police Say Suspect Stabbed Man Who Was Later Involved In Fiery L.I. Crash
HOLBROOK, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Police on Monday arrested a man on charges that he allegedly stabbed another man who was later involved in a serious car crash on Long Island this past weekend.
The victim -- Brian Harris, 39, of Middle Island – was sitting in his 2012 Kia sedan on Knickerbocker Avenue in Holbrook when he allegedly got into a quarrel with Frank Redd, 32, around 8:25 p.m. Saturday, Suffolk County police said.
Redd allegedly stabbed Harris several times in the head, chest and arm, police said.
Harris drove off in his Kia after being stabbed, police said. He went on to strike a guard rail and a sign post on Veterans Memorial Highway, west of Broadway Avenue, in Holbrook, police said.
The vehicle flipped over and caught fire, police said.
Two passing drivers – an off-duty FDNY lieutenant and his brother – stopped at the crash scene and rescued Harris from the burning vehicle by breaking the sunroof and pulling him out, police said.
Harris was taken to Stony Brook University Medical Center in Stony Brook, where he was reported in serious condition with stab wounds and leg and chest injuries, police said.
On Monday, police arrested Redd, of Bohemia, and charged him with first-degree assault. He was to be arraigned Tuesday in Suffolk County First District Court in Central Islip.
The victim's vehicle was impounded for a safety check and the investigation continued late Monday, police said.
