Police: Robbery Suspect, Guns Found After Stolen Car Flips Over In Brooklyn

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police caught up to a suspect in a robbery in East New York, Brooklyn Friday afternoon, after the victim's allegedly stolen car flipped over more than a mile and a half away.

Police also recovered several firearms.

Around 2:15 p.m., police were called to a home on Milford Street in Brooklyn. A 22-year-old man had called 911 and said two suspects – both armed with guns – had come into his home, announced a robbery, and fled with his money and car keys.

The victim gave the 911 operator a description of the suspects, and of his auto and license plate number, police said.

Officers with the description in hand saw the vehicle feeling the scene on Linden Boulevard, police said. The officers tried to chase the vehicle but lost sight of it, police said.

But a second team of officers soon saw the vehicle, a 2004 Nissan Maxima, empty and flipped over at Linden Boulevard and Hinsdale Street, police said.

Firefighters at the scene told officers that one of the suspects had run off and scaled a nearby fence, while the other had hopped into a livery cab and left, police said.

The officers found the livery cab and arrested one suspect, police said.

In tracing the escape route of the second suspect, they found a .38-caliber revolver and a sweat shirt in a yard near New Lots Avenue and Linden Boulevard, police said.

Another silver automatic handgun was found in the stolen car, police said.

Charges against the apprehended suspect were pending late Friday.
