Police: Robber Put Men In Chokehold, Stole Their Bags In Central Park

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police are searching for a suspect in connection with two robberies this week in Central Park.

The first robbery happened around 12:05 a.m. Monday. The suspect walked up to a 47-year-old man at 74th Street and East Drive and placed him in a chokehold, police said.

The suspect dragged the victim to the ground and ripped off his backpack, which contained $7 in cash, a debit card and two credit cards, police said.

Around 12:25 a.m. Wednesday, police said he started talking to another 47-year-old man in the same area of Central Park and then put him in a chokehold.

The suspect dragged the man to the ground and took his bag, which contained $140 in cash and a credit card, police said.

The suspect was described as a black male about 6 feet 5 inches tall. Police have released a sketch.
