Police Rescue Dock Worker Who Falls In Water At South Street Seaport
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police on rescued a dock worker Monday afternoon after he fell into the water at Pier 16 at the South Street Seaport.
The NYPD Harbor Unit Scuba Launch No. 8 responded at 3:12 p.m. to the pier. A 24-year-old man who had been working on the dock fell into the East River after he was hit by a rope and a metal cleat that snapped from a boat that had just pulled away, police said.
Two Good Samaritans, ages 18 and 54, jumped into the water and held the man until police arrived, police said.
Two Harbor Unit scuba officers – Patrick McGrath and Michael Guida – jumped into the water and rescued both the man and the Good Samaritans, police said.
The dock worker was taken to Bellevue Hospital Center, and his condition was reported as stable with a lacerated chin.
The Good Samaritans were not injured, police said.
