Police Rescue 3 From Roof Of Burning Cliffside Park Home

CLIFFSIDE PARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Police rescued three people from the roof of a burning home in Cliffside Park.

Officers Yakup Zoklu, Nick Franolic and Scott Young were the first on the scene of the raging house fire on Lafayette Avenue Monday morning.

The officers found three residents standing near the driveway, but then they looked up and saw three other people stuck on the roof.

"You could see the fear in their faces," Franolic said. "The smoke was billowing out from underneath them, they just wanted to get down."

The officers quickly sprang into action and with the help of a neighbor used two ladders to get the residents to safety.

Six people were treated for smoke inhalation.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
