Police Release Image Of Suspect In Williamsburg Attempted Rape

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A Brooklyn teen stopped a man from violently attacking his mother. Police are now asking for the public's help in the search for the suspect.

Late Thursday night, a man followed the 36-year-old woman into her building near the corner of Bedford and South 3rd streets in Williamsburg, and once inside, proceeded to punch her in the face and started to rip her clothes off, police told CBS2's Steve Langford on Friday.

Surveillance cameras in the building capture shots of the man, who police were calling a suspect.

"It's a sad situation, but they've really tied me down. I can't say anything," the building superintendent said.

The super said he was still shaken by the violence in his building, the woman's screams continuing to echo in the minds of everyone who heard the horror, Langford reported.

"From what I saw, yes, she's fine. She's okay. She's still got beat a little bit, you know, a little hurt that this happened but that she's okay," the super said.

During the rape attempt, the victim's teenage son heard his mother's screams, and when he rushed out to help her, the attacker fled the building, police said.

CBS2's Valerie Castro spoke briefly to the woman's husband, who confirmed the attack was cut short by the quick action of their brave son.

Police are searching for the suspect, who is described as a 25-to-35-year-old black male, about 6-foot-2, weighing 180 pounds, and wearing a blue jacket with the words "Lincoln St. Mary's Council 112" on the back, Langford reported.

Police said the victim refused medical attention at the crime scene.

The woman said the suspect smelled of alcohol.
