Police Release Accidental Selfie Taken After Cellphone Was Stolen
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A search continued Sunday evening, after police released an inadvertent selfie taken with a stolen cellphone in an effort to track down the thief who took it from a man who fell asleep on the subway.
Around 3 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 8, a 23-year-old man boarded a southbound No. 4 train at the 101st Street stop in East Harlem, and fell asleep.
When he woke up at the Borough Hall stop in Brooklyn, the man found his pockets had been sliced open, and his wallet and cellphone had been stolen, police said.
The victim's phone was equipped with an app that took a photo of a person trying to unlock the phone, police said.
Police released the photo, but did not indicate whether the person in the photo was believed to be the thief. Police did not say how they obtained the photo.
