Police: Razor Blades Being Jammed Into Rutherford Parking Meters

RUTHERFORD, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- Rutherford police are issuing a warning about a new type of crime targeting people at random, CBS 2 reported.

Police said someone has been placing razor blades in parking meters. In the past six months, they said they have found seven razor blades.

Authorities said the razors are being jammed into the coin slots of meters along Park Avenue, Ridge Road, in the Kip Parking Garage and the Park and Ride.

Residents expressed their horror to CBS 2.

"Imagine you go to put the coin in and it doesn't work so what happens is you cut your finger. It's pretty bad," Rutherford resident Jay Flores said.

Police advise to be cautious when filling meters.
