Police Probe Violent Death Of Man Found On Long Island Beach

MILLER PLACE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Police on Thursday were investigating the violent death of a man whose body was found on a Long Island beach.

The man -- identified as Sidney Valderde, 19, of Jamaica, Queens – was found on the sand in front of the Miller Beach Surf Club, at 23 Harbor Beach Rd. in Miller Place, on Wednesday, Suffolk County police said.

A man looking for driftwood on the beach discovered Valverde's body lying on the sand, police said.

Police have determined that Valverde suffered a significant head injury.

Police told 1010 WINS the victim as a known gang member and had an extensive criminal history.

Anyone with information in Valverde's death was asked to call the Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad at (631) 852-6392 or make an anonymous call to Crime Stoppers at (800) 220-TIPS.
