Police: Private Sanitation Truck Fatally Struck Bicyclist In Queens

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Authorities say a bicyclist was killed Saturday night in Queens after colliding with a private sanitation truck.

Emergency responders were called to the intersection of 41st Avenue and Vernon Boulevard around 7:15 p.m. following the crash.

Police said upon arrival, 36-year-old Hoyt Jacobs, of Brooklyn, was found unconscious and unresponsive on 41st Avenue. Jacobs was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to police, the truck was traveling north on Vernon Boulevard and struck Jacobs while the driver made a right turn heading east on 41st Avenue.

The driver stayed on the scene of the accident and was not arrested.

Police said the investigation is ongoing.
