NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) - Authorities say a passenger demanding money grabbed a taxi driver's collar and held a knife to his neck as they drove through midtown Manhattan.

Port Authority Police Sgt. Raymond Garland spotted the cabbie swerving and frantically leaning on his horn near Eighth Avenue and West 36th Street.

Garland pulled over the driver and ordered the suspect out of the cab. The man tried to flee, but was captured after a struggle.

He was arrested on attempted robbery and weapon possession charges. It happened on Monday. Police say he also was named in a Florida drug warrant and had 18 driver's license suspensions.

Police say the man, identified as Vincent DiSieno, is homeless.
