CBS 2 Sources: Police Officer Critically Injured In Coney Island Fire To Be Released From Hospital

CONEY ISLAND, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- The police officer who was critically injured in a fire at a Coney Island high-rise last month will soon be heading home after a lengthy hospital stay.

Rosa Rodriguez, 36, is set to be released from the hospital on Monday, sources told CBS 2.

Rodriguez was found unconscious on the 13th floor after responding to a fire at the building on April 6.

Another officer, Dennis Guerra, was also overcome and died of his injuries three days after the fire.

Marcell Dockery, 16, allegedly admitted to starting the fire out of boredom, although his lawyer now claims the confession was coerced by investigators.

Dockery lives on the 12th floor of the residential high-rise on Surf Avenue.

He was initially charged with assault, arson and reckless endangerment, but was additionally indicted by a grand jury on the charge of second-degree murder, also called felony murder, following Guerra's death.
