Police: Motorcyclist Killed In Major Deegan Expressway Crash

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A 24-year-old man died Sunday morning after the motorcycle he was riding collided with a van on the Major Deegan Expressway, police said.

The crash occurred around 10:30 a.m. on the southbound lanes near Exit 11 in the Bronx.

The motorcyclist suffered severe body trauma and was rushed by ambulance to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Police said a preliminary investigation shows the man's motorcycle rear-ended a 2006 Mazda van, driven by a 50-year-old person. The van's driver and a 7-year-old passenger were treated for minor injuries at Montefiore Medical Center, cops said.

Authorities are not releasing the motorcyclist's name until after his family has been notified.
