Police: Man Wanted For Beating Woman With Beer Bottle In Washington Heights

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police are trying to identify a man who they said beat a woman in the head with a beer bottle in broad daylight.

It happened just before 8 a.m. Christmas day on Edgecombe Avenue in Washington Heights.

The incident was caught on surveillance video. Police said a 45-year-old woman was walking when the man approached her from behind and grabbed her.

When the woman tried to run away, police said he attacked her again, hitting her multiple times in the head with a beer bottle.

The suspect can be seen on the video dragging the woman and hitting her before she falls to the ground. He then calmly walks away.

The woman suffered lacerations, swelling and bruising to her head and was taken to the hospital where she is now in stable condition.

Police described the suspect as a 40-year-old Hispanic man, 6'1" tall and weighing around 220 pounds. He has brown eyes, brown hair and was wearing black boots, a black jacket and black jeans.
