Police: Man Tried To Steal 11-Year-Old Girl's Cellphone In Astoria, Queens

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police on Thursday released a sketch of a man who allegedly tried to rip off a cellphone from an 11-year-old girl as she walked to school in Astoria, Queens.

Around 7:30 a.m. Tuesday. Jan. 20, the girl was walking to school near Ditmars Boulevard and 28th Street in Queens when the suspect walked up to her and tried to grab her cellphone, police said.

The girl pulled the cellphone back, and the victim began to scream and ran off, police said.

There were no injuries reported, police said.

The suspect was described as a black male standing about 5 feet 9 inches tall.
