Police: Man Swiped Women's Purses At Multiple Brooklyn Nightspots

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police on Thursday were searching for a suspect who has ripped off women's unattended handbags at multiple bars and nightspots in Williamsburg and Bushwick, Brooklyn.

The thefts happened between Sept. 14 and Oct. 19 at an assortment of nightspots, police said.

The first theft happened around 9 p.m. Sept. 14 at The Well, at 272 Meserole St. The suspect took a 23-year-old woman's unattended bag, which contained an iPhone and multiple credit cards.

Around 3 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 4, the thief struck again at Tutus Brooklyn, at 25 Bogart St., police said. The suspect took a 26-year-old woman's handbag containing $30 and multiple credit cards while she was outside smoking a cigarette, police said.

Around 3:30 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 12, the suspect walked into the Trash Bar, at 256 Grand St., and took a 34-year-old woman's unattended purse, police said. The purse contained an iPhone and several credit cards.

And on Sunday, Oct. 19, around 3:20 a.m., the suspect walked into the Privilege Lounge, at 140 Graham Ave., and took a 47-year-old woman's bag, police said. The bag contained an unknown sum of cash, multiple credit cards, and an iPhone 4S.

The suspect was described as a black Hispanic male around 30 years old, standing about 5 feet 10 inches tall, with short black hair. He was last seen wearing a white baseball hat and a black jacket.

Police have released a surveillance video from the most recent incident.
