Police: Man Stole Cigarettes From West Village Gas Station, Stabbed Employee In Hand

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police on Wednesday were searching for a suspect who stole a pack of cigarettes from a West Village gas station mart and stabbed an employee in the hand.

The suspect walked into the Mobil gas station mart at 63 Eighth Ave. around 1:50 a.m. Monday, and took the cigarettes, police said.

An 18-year-old male store employee chased the suspect, before the suspect pulled out a knife and stabbed the employee in the hand, police said.

The employee was taken to Bellevue Hospital, where he received several stitches, police said.

The suspect was described as a white male about 35 years old, standing about 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighing about 200 pounds.

Police have released surveillance photos of the suspect.
