Police: Man Mugged Outside Port Authority Bus Terminal While Hailing Taxi

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A homeless man was arrested in connection with an attack on a commuter outside of Port Authority.

At around 5:45 a.m. Monday, the suspect approached a 52-year-old man from behind who was attempting to hail a cab outside 625 8th Ave, police said.

He then punched the man who then fell to the ground, according to police.

The victim got up and ran inside the Port Authority Bus Terminal. The suspect chased after him and demanded his cell phone while continuing the assault, police said.

Port Authority Police placed the suspect, identified as Sassony Bryant, 31, under arrest.

Bryant was charged with attempted robbery and assault.

The victim was taken to Roosevelt Hospital, and is being treated for injuries to his face and elbow.
