Police said the man -- identified as Tito Morales, 20, of the Bronx -- was found unconscious and unresponsive, wedged between the wall of the elevator shaft and elevator car between the 18th and 19th floors of the Adams Houses on Tinton Avenue just before 4 a.m.

Rescue workers got Morales out, but he died at the scene. The Medical Examiner will determine cause of the death.

Friends and family said Morales was apparently visiting his girlfriend at the time of the incident, 1010 WINS' Glenn Schuck reported. They said he got stuck in the elevator and then fell while trying to get out, Schuck reported.

Police are not confirming that version of events.

The investigation is ongoing.
