Police: Longtime Somerville Firefighter Killed In Hit-And-Run Accident

SOMERVILLE, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Police are looking for the motorist who struck and killed a volunteer firefighter outside a Somerville firehouse.

George Kavanaugh, 75, was found in front of the Lincoln Hose Company on Warren Street on Friday night, police said. He died at a hospital.

Kavanaugh had been a volunteer member of the department for 50 years.

Assistant Fire Chief Brian Iselin tells the Courier News of Bridgewater the fire department was Kavanaugh's life and he was very dedicated to fire service.
