Police: Long Island Youth Baseball Coach Dies After Being Hit By Ball

YAPHANK, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A youth baseball coach died after being struck in the head with a ball on Long Island on Saturday night, police said.

Richard Becher, 50, of Holbrook, was hit with the baseball during pregame warm-ups around 5:30 p.m. at Baseball Heaven in Yaphank, police said. When police and paramedics arrived, bystanders were performing CPR on the man, authorities said.

Becher was then rushed to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arriving, police said.

The Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad is investigating the incident.
