Police Investigating Possible Murder-Suicide In Newark

NEWARK (CBSNewYork) -- As police in Newark begin their investigation into what may have been a murder-suicide, family and friends were coming to grips with the deadly incident Saturday.

As WCBS 880's Jim Smith reported, distraught family members gathered in the driveway of the home on Lincoln Avenue.

On the perimeter of the yellow crime scene tape, neighbors struggled to comprehend what had happened.

"I live next door to them so I see them almost every day. But they're really good people. I mean they're kids, ya know. So I don't know what happened," one neighbor told Smith.

The prosecutor's office said a male and a female who were believed to be a couple were found dead of gunshot wounds inside the home.

One of the wounds was possibly self inflicted, Smith reported.

Neighbor Julio said there were never any signs of trouble.

"You don't expect you know. Especially with good people like them. You know it tough," he said.

One resident said he didn't hear any gunshots, he only heard the whale of police sirens as they got closer. That's when he realized it was for his neighbors.
