Police Investigate After Man Claims He Accidentally Shot 2-Year-Old Son

CAMDEN, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Police in southern New Jersey have filed charges against a Camden man who told authorities he accidentally shot his 2-year-old son while they and other family members were in a vehicle.

Camden County Police said 38-year-old Sergio Rivera is charged with aggravated assault, child endangerment, drug possession and weapons offenses.

Authorities said they learned of the shooting when they were called to the hospital where the boy was being treated for left arm and left leg wounds.  They said Rivera did not cooperate with detectives when they questioned him about the shooting.

A 9mm handgun was found in the vehicle, and authorities said Rivera had several pills of Percocet, a prescription painkiller, in his possession.
