Police In Bergen County Warn Parents Of Several Luring Attempts

LEONIA, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- Police in Bergen County, N. J. are warning parents after a recent rash of luring attempts over the past week.

As CBS 2's Jessica Schneider reported Thursday, several men have targeted at least seven young children throughout Bergen County.

"I'm scared and worried. I'm going to have a sit-down with them today," said Ridgefield Park parent Wanda Portorreal.

Portorreal lives in the same neighborhood where police said a 10-year-old boy was approached by two men in a car on Monday.

Police have released a sketch of one of the suspects and praised the young boy for ignoring them and riding his bike home.

"It's evident they're doing a great job with their son and he knew exactly what to do at the right time," said Ridgefield Park Police Lt. Joe Rella.

On Wednesday, two girls reported that a man driving a Jeep Wrangler outside Norwood Public School motioned them to his car, Young reported.

Scott Falkenstern's son was in the school yard when the incident happened.

"He was out in the back when it happened. (Was he scared by it?) Yeah, a little bit. Little bit," Falkenstern said.

Police in Leonia said they are also investigating two luring attempts.

In both cases a man yelled inappropriate sexual comments to young girls and then drove away.

One of the incidents happened on Wood Terrace and Hillside Avenue. The other happened near Broad and Summit avenues, police said.
