Police Find No Link In 2 Fatal Elizabeth Shootings

ELIZABETH, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) - Prosecutors say the shooting deaths of two men in Elizabeth do not appear to be connected.

Both shootings took place Tuesday night and occurred about 30 minutes apart. Motives for both sayings remain under investigation, and no arrests have been made.

The first shooting was reported around 10:10 p.m. on Third Street. Responding officers found 39-year-old Alonzo Gordon of Elizabeth, who had been sitting on the front steps of a building when an unidentified suspect approached and shot him with a handgun at close range.

Gordon was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

The second shooting occurred near the area of Cherry and West Jersey streets. The victim, 20-year-old Allens Exilus of Roselle, was pronounced dead a short time later at a hospital.
