Police: Drunken New Jersey Man Stole Bulldozer To Get Ride Home

HARRISON, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A New Jersey man, who was apparently drunk, stole a bulldozer from a construction site in order to get a ride home, police said.

Christopher Russell, 30, left behind a path of destruction as he tried to maneuver the bulldozer Friday night through West Hudson Park, police said.

Harrison Police Capt. Mike Green told the Jersey Journal that Russell told officers he was cold and was trying to ride home to Newark.

The bulldozer leveled signs, three benches, a tree, a drinking fountain, and left a maze of tracks in the grass, police said.

"Right around the area where the construction is, some of the fencing and some of the other materials that were there were also damaged by him operating the vehicle," Green told 1010 WINS.

Russell was charged with driving while intoxicated, criminal mischief and theft of the bulldozer.

Green told 1010 WINS Russell is also charged with leaving the scene of an accident for allegedly striking a parked vehicle with the bulldozer.
