Police: Drunk Driver Crashes Car, Kills Passenger On L.I.

BRENTWOOD, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) - A Long Island man has been arrested on a drunken-driving charge after a one-car crash that killed his passenger.

The accident happened just before 6 a.m. Saturday in Shirley.

Suffolk County police say 27-year-old Oscar Rivera was driving southbound on Grand Boulevard when he lost control of the car and hit a tree.

Rivera's passenger, 29-year-old David Gonzalez, was taken to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore, where he was pronounced dead.

Rivera, of Shirley, is being treated for serious injuries at the same hospital.

Police arrested Rivera on a charge of driving while intoxicated.

No information for an attorney for Rivera was immediately available.
