Police: Driver Bailed, Left Car On NJ TRANSIT Tracks After Hitting Train

JERSEY CITY, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- Police in Jersey City were searching Wednesday night for a driver who blew through a red light, slammed into a light rail train, and left the car on the tracks.

The incident happened around 4:30 p.m. on the NJ TRANSIT Hudson-Bergen Light Rail tracks, NJ TRANSIT police said.

About 20 people were on the train. No one was injured, police told WCBS 880.

The driver ran off, possibly with two passengers, police said.

The Hudson-Bergen Light Rain ran on a single track through the Randolph Avenue area following the incident, officials said. Service has since returned to normal.
